The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA), an affiliate of the American Library Association, was founded in 1973. It is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the following goals:
Chinese American Librarians Association Southeast Chapter was established in April 2007. It is a newly built chapter to fulfill CALAís goals and to better serve the Southeast Chapterís members from seven states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The members are from all types of libraries including academic, public, and special libraries. From 1998-2006, there was a Florida Chapter in the region. It is now incorporated into the Southeast Chapter. The Chapter would like to bridge the libraries in China and in the United States by providing contact and connection for you.
The Chapter also provides its members with an open and collegial forum to discuss current and relevant issues and to meet their colleagues who are involved in various aspects of librarianship. There are opportunities for networking by sponsoring regional programs.
